Only if you get one of the Internet browser carts for it, they went out of print a while ago, but you should be able to get them off ebay maybe.

If you really want the internet on it you could always just get a DSi

When the DS is concerned the only real add-ons you can get for it that are legal is they produced an mp3 player add-on for it which you can usually find in HMV. Other than that there is a thing called an R4 cart, which is illegal because of things you can do with them (don't own one myself) but you can get homebrew programs which are completely legal and have been made by people, like a way to view films or play music on your DS, along with a drawing application like Photoshop.

Where as with the PSP if you buy a memory card for it you can transfer songs and movies, as long as they constrain to the format types required. The PSP has add-ons wise go explore, go messenger, gocam, go view, which are in order a sat nav feature, a messenger application, a camera for taking photos and a way of watching tv.

It really depends on what you want out of the console in the end, as the DS has some really good inovative games on it, where as the PSP is more of a media machine with games. You could however wait for the DSi to come out, where you get more media functionality out of it, but there's no release date for in Europe yet as far as I know.

I would say though I do tend to play more on my DS, as I don't have as much free time as I used to, and I find it easier to be able to pick up and play a DS game, but less so with my PSP, which I recently bought a new Slim & Lite version of the Final Fantasy variety.

Thank you very much Catherine, I have read numerous so called 'official' reviews and I was still left confused. I have read your review and find the unbiased text most refreshing. I have not owned a games console since the sage mega drive, (showing my age...) I will be hunting the streets of London tomorrow finding the best deal on the DS Lite. Could anyone please tell me what add ons are available, ie, to store and play movies/music or is there even a sat nav option?

this is a great review! thanks for posting it. most reviews about psp and ds are by people who only have one of the systems, which are usually biased. I have a ds lite and i love it. I am still thinking whether or not to get a psp, loco roco is actually the only reason i want a psp, and to play snes roms.
