Sixty One: Ren & Stimpy must return

Over the past few days I've been reminded again why I absolutely loved watching Ren and Stimpy as a child, and why I need to own the whole series.

If you like the video above you should watch the minute before it to see what exactly is going on, sadly the other video won't let me embed it.

Ren and Stimpy was the cartoon for children back in the early to late nineties, it had the humour of other cartoons at the time but took it that little bit further. While also featuring detailed one shots, similar to that which you may see in Spongebob Squarepants these days. These were highly detailed, gruesome images of a specific character or thing to heighten the disgustful and uncomfortable nature of some situations or items on the show.

It's a shame that not much these days matches the nature of Ren & Stimpy, perhaps parents would want to ban similar cartoons, or maybe children don't want to watch cartoons with a large emphasis on black comedy. Either way I grew up with it and it's not exactly something I ever forgot loving, especially the Salve episode.

If you haven't watched the show before I recommend you watch a few episodes, perhaps rent a dvd, or even buy a series, it's well worth the watch as John Kricfalusi did a pretty good job on it all, just don't expect something that's all bright and happy.

Now can someone please re-release the entire series uncut and re-mastered on blu-ray!
